Gordon Brown is contrite!

Published by unique at 8:24 pm Thursday under Alcohol, Economy, Finance, Government, Politics Edit This

It is an amazing to hear Gordon Brown responding to journalists, to House of Commons committees and to MPs at Prime Minister’s Questions. However hard he is pressed, he is resilient. It does not matter how clear cut the case against him seems to be, Gordon Brown is strong enough to resist the S (orry) word.

Indeed, if you listen to him, he appears never to have made a bad decision in his life. He is never wrong and is forever saying that (he) ‘it is right’ to do whatever he has chosen, as if he has been empowered to make correct decisions from a superior being.

As I was pondering the issue, I concluded that Gordon Brown must think he is continually right. It was at that point it struck me. Continually right, eh! Of course! Everyone asks him if he is contrite about the British economy and Gordon Brown assumes that they have just shortened the phrase. Who could doubt that he has turned Britain into a wonderland; the perfect economy, able to withstand Boom and Bust; where debt is a virtue and prudence has been defiled.

Outside the government machine, we all know better. Our debt-ridden society, like a drunk falling out of a pub, has become unable to stand up for itself. Rather than sober us up, the landlord Prime Minister and his barman at the Treasury are attempting to ply us with more debt. But at some point there was always going to be a multi-coloured yawn. Having made their money, the banking brewery has foreclosed on the licensee landlord. It is time to accept the hangover and to head for Borrowers Anonymous.

The landlord may yet be able to prime the pump and to get some beer back in his establishment in preparation for the next election booth opening time. The question is, will the British people stagger back in or will they collectively head for a new regieme?

Sometimes contrite is more acceptable than being continually right, eh?
